The Miami Marlins handed Ozzie Guillen a 5 game suspension on Tuesday. The punishment is for comments the manager made in a recent Time magazine interview. Guillen was quoted as saying “he loves and Respects Fidel Castro”.
Ozzie Guillen held a press conference today in Miami to apologize to the Cuban community in Miami for his comments. There were many Cubans outside of the press conference protesting. Many of those protesting want Guillen to loose his managerial job for his comments.
The Marlins hope that this punishment will be enough for the protesters and the Cuban community in Miami. The Marlins have worked very hard to appeal to the very community that dominates the Miami area. We will have to wait and see what long term affects Guillen’s comments will have on the team.
