“Let’s Get Rowdy” Rousey Defeats Kaufman Via Armbar

Much like a pro wrestler has a finisher so does female MMA fighter “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey, the armbar submission.  Rousey is a former Olympic bronze medalist in judo and comes from a tradition of judo, her mother also being a judo practitioner.  Trained by the great “judo” Gene Lebell and training with the Diaz brothers in California.  Rousey has ascended to the top of womens MMA in less than a year.  Rousey has a 3-0 amateur record and a 6-0 pro record, all of the victories came via armbar submission with the latest victory coming Saturday night.

Rousey the 135 pound Champion defended her title against challenger Sarah Kaufman.  Many thought Kaufman’s experience and striking ability would be a tough challenge for Rousey to over come.  There was nothing difficult for Rousey in this fight.  She took Kaufman down early and got the submission victory at 54 seconds.  Rousey has only had one fight that went longer than one minute.  That fight was against Miesha Tate when the fight went 4:27, Rousey claimed the title in that March fight with an arm bar.

The next fight for Rousey will most likely be against former champion Cyborg Santos.  That would be an intriguing fight and would likely be a great one.  Santos striking is the best in womans MMA and we already know what Rousey is bringing to the table.  It could be the highest rated women’s MMA fight in History.

Rousey is very popular and her popularity will only get greater with her submission victories.  Not quit as popular as Gina Corano was a little over 3 years ago when she was on top of the division, Rousey is getting close to that level though.  The myth could grow to the point she may reach the level Mike Tyson in the 1980s.  The only thing that might hold her back has nothing to do with her fighting but rather how she acts outside of the cage.  She does not carry herself like a superstar, Rousey comes across more as an everyday person in interviews.  If she continues her demolition of the women’s division superstar appeal may not matter.  The eyes of the MMA world will be on her even more in her next fight and we will have to see how she handles all of the attention.

Chad “Uh-Oh Cinco” Johnson Arrested In Miami

On Saturday night Chad Johnson formerly Chad Ocho Cinco was arrested in Miami.  The arrest stemmed from a domestic assault that occurred outside of his south Florida home.  Johnson’s wife Evelyn Lozado alleged she was headbutted by him during an argument.  This is one of the worst things that Johnson could have done to his football career.

Johnson was signed by the Miami Dolphins earlier this summer.  Johnson was ineffective and largely unused last season for the New England Patriots.  He caught only 15 passes in 15 games for the AFC Champion Patriots.  The Dolphins wanted a big name to bring to camp and decided to take a chance on Johnson.  The experiment is already going wrong and the season is still a month away.

Chad Johnson has made a career of being T.O. like with his ego and antics.  Once wearing a Hall Of Fame jacket with is name written on the back of it on the sidelines of a game.   While talented and successful he has a knack for creating controversy and adversely affecting teams.  Johnson was recently married and changed his name back to his birth name from his attention getting Chad Ocho Cinco monicker.  Johnson has always been about getting his name out in the media and being bigger than the team.  He has done it again but this time he could face serious charges and even be released by the one team that wanted to give him an opportunity.  Johnson is only getting older and does not have much time left to be screwing up or alienating himself from his team.

The Dolphins have been in rebuilding mode since Dan Marino retired after the 2000 NFL season.  The team has made a mistake by signing Johnson and would be making an even graver mistake by keeping him.  The Dolphins have struggled and been at the bottom of the AFC East for way to long.  This is an organization that should be on top with such a great legacy and tradition.  They obviously still have a long way to go judging by the Ocho Cinco experiment.  He is made for one thing and one thing only, to destroy a team while making the papers for doing and saying ridiculous things.  Johnson has gone too far this time and its time for the Dolphins to cut ties with the Pro Bowl Wide Receiver.
